Freiburg on Wednesday formalized the signing of young central defender Hugo Siquet from Standard de Liège, which will take effect on January 1 at the opening of the winter transfer window.
The transfer amount was not disclosed by the German club, but the Belgian press is talking about a check for 5.5 million euros. The Belgian international (5 caps, 1 goal) had already been in the sights of Lille during the last transfer window, but the Mastiff's first offer had been refused.
“We have been following Hugo's journey since his first steps at Standard. Last summer it was not yet possible to materialize a transfer, the joy is all the greater now," says sporting director Klemens Hartenbach in the club's statement.
"His playing intelligence, his energy and his constant desire to move forward characterize him. Together, we now want to tackle the next stages of its development and we are really looking forward to it."
